Sunday 27th April 2025 - Broadway v Redbourn - Home - Friendly - Won 141 - 49

This afternoons friendly ended up at home to Redbourn and as both teams had additiona players available it was agreed to change the game to 5 triples instead of 4. On a lovely sunny afternoon Broadway had a comfortable win on all 5 rinks although there was some good bowls played by both teams and another enjoyable afternoon for all. Carol Crick, John Read & Judy Rogers  got off to a flying start and were 18-1 up after 7 ends, impressive considering there was only 1 shot available on teh first 2 ends. They continued to dominate the game throughout and despite losing 7 ends in the game they won 27-10. Janet Meacham, Peter Squire & Bryan Collins had an equally impressive game and despite losing the first end they then won the next 12 ends in a row and despite a late fightback from our visitors they went on to win 26-12. Pauline Squire, Keith Dellat & Lewis Fletcher put in another highest winning rink performance, losing just 4 ends during the game and they went on to win 37-5. Lee Jaycock, Michael Meacham & Roger Crick got off to a great start going 10-- ahead after 4 ends but they then dropped 8 over the next 2 ends to make this a closer game and after 11 ends they were 14-12 ahead. They then picked up a 5  and went on to win 26-14. Malcolm Robins, Caryl Collins & Paul Rogers aslo used home advantage to get off to a good start going 8-0 ahead after 5 ends and they went on to win 13 of the ends with a final score of 25-8.

Saturday 26th April 2025 - Broadway v Hazlemere - Away - Friendly - Won 85 - 49

This afternoon we travelled to Hazelmere to play in the first game they have hosted on their new green. This was an enjoyable game for all those taking part and it was great to see they have been able to replace their old green with a new all weather surface, the same as ours. Malcolm Robins, Vanessa Culmer & Bryan Collins took an early lead in their game and went on to control the game throughout, winning 10 of the 18 ends but winning the match 18 - 8. Sue Brown, Caryl Collins & Roger Crick played out a closer game and although they started the stronger they dropped a 6 on the 5th end to go 7-4 down and by the team they stopped for tea at 9 ends they were 9-8 down. They then dropped another 4 straight after tea but by the 16th end they were 17-14 ahead. They then dropped another 4 to go in to the last end 1 shot behind but thanks to some great bowls from Sue & Caryl they managed to pick up a 6 to win 23-18. Carol Crick, Michael Meacham & Lewis Fletcher earnt highest winning rink this afternoon courtesy of some great bowls from all 3 players winning 27-9. In the final game Janet Meacham, John Read & Ian Culmer took a while to get in to the game and by the 13th end they were 12-5 down but they then picked up a 5 to close the gap and this seemed to be the turning point in the game as they then went on to win 17-14.

Sunday 20th April 2025 - Broadway v Kitcheners - Home - Friendly - Won 70 - 53

This afternoon we were looking to bounce back after our defeat at Herts last week and we welcomed Kitcheners to our green. Lee Jaycock, Peter Squire & John Read won 20-12 and Malcolm Robins, Sue Brown and Bryan Collins won 24-7 however we lost on the other 2 rinks, Pauline Squire, Keith Dellar & Lee Adams lost 16-13 and Bob Cummins, Caryl Collins & Lewis Fletcher lost 18-13. 

Sunday 13th April 2025 - Broadway v Herts - Away - Friendly - Lost 112 - 76

This afternoon we had our first away friendly of the season away to Herts and although this fixture was meant to have been for 5 triples both teams had extra players so we agreed to play across 6 rinks, with 4 rinks games and 2 triples, to ensure that everyone got a game. Despite a short rain shower it was an enjoyable afternoon and great to be back playing again. Michael Meacham, Vanessa Culmer & Bryan Collins were joined by a Herts player and despite a good start they went on a run of 8 ends without a win and their game ended up in an 18-10 defeat. Malcolm Robins, John Read & Paul Rogers were also joined by a Herts player and this was to be a close game throughout which we ended up winning 14-10. Janet Meacham, Bill Caple & Stuart Churcher had a tough afternoon and despite winning 7 of the 18 ends they were on the wrong side of a 24-12 scoreline. Carol Crick, Sue Brown, Ian Culmer & Lewis Fletcher played out a close game throughout and although they picked up a 5 on the 6th end they then lost 6 ends in a row and went in to the last end 15-14 down and with his last wood to play and best back Lewis played with enough weight to spring the jack off the Herts bowl and back to our bowl to earn a 15-15 draw. Keith Beck, Judy Rogers & Lee Adams also had a tough afternoon winning just 5 ends in the game and ended up losing 25 - 7. Lee Jaycock, Dan Rogers & Roger Crick got off to a great start in their game and were 14-10 ahead after 13 ends however they then dropped 10 shots over the next 3 ends and despite getting 4 of those back in the last 2 ends they lost 20-18.
