Bucks Plate

17th May 2023 - Broadway v Denham - Won 69 (11pts) - 60 (3pts)

This evening we started off our Bucks Plate campaign against Denham and our home side performed well and won on both their rinks to help cover the points dropped away from home. Bill Caple, Lewis Fletcher & Lee Adams got off to a great start in their game going 8-2 ahead after 6 ends however the visitors started to get back in to the match and by the 14th end had actually gone 12-11 ahead however we put in a great finish picking up 8 shots from teh last 4 ends to get the first 2 points with a 19-13 win. On the other home rink Bryan Collins, Ian Culmer & Philip Reeves were involved ina tight game over the first 9 ends and were 9-6 ahead. They then won 5 ends in a row to take a 16 - 6 lead however they then dropped a 5 and were just 2 shots ahead with 2 ends to play but they held on an took a shot on each of the last 2 ends to win 18-14. Kieran Jaycock, Pete Coyne & Roger Crick got off to a great start away from home, going 12-5 ahead after 7 ends however they then started to struggle and only won 3 of the last 11 ends but managed to hold on for a 15-15 draw. Thomas Jaycock, Matthew Crick & Paul Rogers had a very similar game and were 10-5 ahead after 7 ends but they too struggled for the remainder of the game, winning just 4 more ends and narrowly losing 18-17.

24th May 2023 - Broadway v Bassettbury Manor - Won 64 (10pts) - 57 (4pts)

This evening we were looking to build on last weeks success against Denham against Bassetsbury Manor, who had gone top of the table the first week, so this was going to be a tough game. Bill Caple, Lewis Fletcher & Lee Adams took the early lead in their game however as expected this was a tight game with both sides winning 9 ends each however we managed to hold on for a 14-12 win. Bryan Collins, Ian Culmer & Stuart Churcher started well in their game, going 8-1 ahead however they then dropped 14 shots from the next 5 ends and were then unable to get back in front and lost 19-15. Playing away were Kieran Jaycock, Pete Coyne & Roger Crick and despite some great bowls from Kieran & Pete the luck wasn't with them this evening and they only managed to win 5 ends and ended up losing 18-12. Thomas Jaycock, Matthew Crick & Paul Rogers put in a great team performance and when they picked up a 5 on the 7th end to take a 9-3 lead they never looked like losing on their rink and they eventually won 23-8 to give us the overall win and 2 rinks each. this result moves us to top of the table after 2 games and we now have a week off before we take on Chalfont St Giles next on the 7th June.

14th June 2023 - Broadway v High Wycombe - Won 81 - 54 (12pts - 2pts)

This evening we went in to the game with High Wycombe knowing that we needed a good win to ensure that the league winners would be in our own hands in the last game of the group stages. Unfortunately with Denham having also now pulled out of the league we lost the points we had earnt against them and started out the night 12 points behind Wexham, with this game in hand. Pete Coyne, Josh Henly & Paul Rogers got off to a slow start away from home, taking a few ends to come to terms with the pace of the green and after 9 ends they were 6-5 down however they then won the next 8 ends and ended up winning 25-8. In the other game away from home Kieran Jaycock, Thomas Jaycock & Roger Crick took control of the game in the first end by picking up a 4 and on the 4th end they picked up another 4 to take a comfortable lead. Despite dropping a 4 on the 9th end, which reduced the lead to 3, we then picked up 12 shots from the next 2 ends and went on to win 27-14. Bill Caple, Stuart Churcher & Lewis Fletcher took an early lead at home although the visitors managed to get back in to the game and after 15 ends the scores were level at 11-11 however we dug in and managed to pick up 2 shots on each of the remaining ends to win 17-11. Matthew Crick, Bryan Collins & Lee Adams had a tougher evening against a triple that had played at the club earlier in the week in the county triples and they got off to a good start, making it difficult for Broadway to get back in to the game and when we dropped 9 shots in 3 ends to go 10 shots down this game was then going to be about damage limitation and they kept fighting to the end, losing 21-12. With 3 winning rinks and the overall win we moved joint top with Wexham with just a 2 shot difference between the 2 clubs. Next week we face Wexham to decide the league winners and the home advantage for the quarter finals.

21st June 2023 - Broadway v Wexham - Won 112 - 47 (12pts - 2pts)

This evening we went in to our last group game of the plate with a shot difference 2 worse than Wexham but knowing that a win would give us top spot in the group which would mean a home draw in the quarter finals and promotion back to the Cup for next season. Bill Caple, Ian Culmer & Philip Reeves were playing at home and their game started off as a tight game and we were 7 - 5 down after 8 ends however we then picked up a 5 to take the lead and from there they controlled the game very well, picking up another 5 on their way to a 25-11 win. Kieran Jaycock, Thomas Jaycock & Roger Crick got off to a positive start picking up 7 shots from the first 3 ends and despite dropping 2 on the next end they were determined to get the win and help ensure we won the overall match. They then picked up 11 shots from the next 2 ends and by the 10th end were 24-6 ahead. They then narrowly missed out on a hotshot when Roger took out Wexhams only bowl in the head but his bowl just rolled out and we picked up an 8. They then went on to win the remaining ends and finished up winning 56 - 6. Pete Cyone, Josh Henly & Paul Rogers found the going tough at Wexham on a very heavy green, compared to what we are used to playing on, however they picked up a 5 on the 2nd end and dominated the game throughout, losing just 5 ends in a game they won 23-10. Matthew Crick, Lee Adams & Lewis Fletcher never really got to grips with the conditions and only managed to win 4 ends during the game and ended up losing 20-8. Having secure top spot with the win we now await the draw for the quarter finals which will see us with a home draw on Saturday 15th July at 10am.

Saturday 15th July 2023 - Broadway v Winslow - Bucks Plate Quarter Final - Home - Won 100 - 45

This morning we hosted Winslow for the quarter final of this seasons Bucks Plate and we were looking to continue our winning run and make full use of our home advantage. Josh Henly, Pete Coyne & Paul Rogers got us off to a great start picking up 10 shots from the first 4 ends and they never looked back, going on to win 37-5. Matthew Crick, Ian Culmer & Philip Reeves had an equally comfortable game dropping just 4 shots in the match and they went on to win 33-4. Bill Caple, Lewis Fletcher & Lee Adams had a much closer game and despite dropping a 6 on the first end they battled back well and by the 5th end they were all square at 8-8. The lead continued to change hands however despite dropping a 2 on the last end they held on for a 20-18 win. Kieran Jaycock, Thomas Jaycock & Roger Crick got off to a slow start in their game and by the 6th end were 12-2 down and were then left trying to play catch up and by the 12th end they were just 12-10 down however they didn't win another end and ended up losing 18-10.

Sarah Jaycock, Debbie Horsted, Carol Crick & Judy Rogers got back to winning ways tonight in the Burnham, following their disappointing result last week. 22nd June 2023 - Broadway v Amersham - Away - Won 16 - 13

This evening we maintained top spot in the division with a narrow win at Amersham. In a top of the table match at home to Chesham our ladies, Sarah, Debbie, Carol & Judy were looking to reverse the result away to Chesham earlier in the competition, knowing that a win would guarantee top spot. Despite dropping a 4 early in the game we responded well and picked up a 4 ourselves and by the halfway stage we were 10-7 ahead. We remained ahead throughout the game from there, despite losing the last 3 ends we held on for a good win and a home match against Waddesdon in the Quarter Finals.
