Thursday 25th July 2024 - Broadway v Watford Cassiobury - Griffin Cup - Won 36 - 28

This evening we were plating the 2nd round of the Watford & District Griffin Cup which sees 2 mens rinks compete in a knockout competition. Ian Culmer, Kieran Jaycock, Thomas Jaycock & Paul Rogers had to play against a triple as the hosts were unable to field a full team. With 2 of their players having 3 bowls they would lose 25% of their score at the end of the game however that extra bowl certainly helped the 2 players in very challenging conditions. We made a slow start whilst trying to come to terms with the green but despite dropping 18 shots from 5 ends we kept up and ended up losing 17-14. Roger Crick, Lee Jaycock, Lee Adams and Lewis Fletcher dropped a 5 on the first end however 3 ends later we were 6-5 ahead and from there they never lost the lead and went on to win 22-11 and earn the overall win and a place in the next round.

Tuesday 23rd July 2024 - Broadway v Amersham - Chiltern & Thames League - Away - Lost 60 - 49 (2-8)

This evening we were at Amersham for our re-arranged C&T game knowing that a win would secure top spot and a place in the quarter finals however it was to turn out to be one of those nights where it didn't go our way. Carol Crick, David Cartland and Paul Rogers found it tough going in their game but they managed to hold on and with 2 ends to go they were just 5 shots down but couldn't get the shots required to get anything out of the game and lost 19-14. Vanessa Culmer, Lee Adams and Lewis Fletcher just couldn't get any luck this evening, although their oppoents played very well but we struggled to pick up many shots and ended up losing the game 24 - 9. Roger Crick, Judy Rogers & Ian Culmer got off to a good start and held the lead throughout the game although a late fightback from Amersham saw them reduce our winning margin and we ended up winning 26-17. So we now have 1 game left in the C&T against Chessvale and by then we will know what is required in order to qualify as Amersham will have played their game in hand by then.
